Sumatra 9D/8N
Sumatra 9D/8N is a private tour where you can get the best nature experience in Sumatra. Sumatra has a wide range of plant and animal species but has lost almost 50% of its tropical rainforest in the last 35 years. Many species are now critically endangered, such as the Sumatran ground cuckoo, the Sumatran tiger, the Sumatran elephant, the Sumatran rhinoceros, and the Sumatran Orang Utan.
Medan is rich in culture and history and presents itself as a dynamic economic hub of the world. However, Medan is known as a trading hub for palm oil export. Bukit Lawang is a small tourist village in North Sumatra province of Indonesia. It is known for the largest animal sanctuary of Sumatran orangutan (around 5,000 orangutans occupying the area) and also the main access point to the Gunung Leuser National Park from the east side.
Day 1. Arrival Medan
Upon arrival at the Kualanamu Airport in Medan, you will meet your private driver who will accompany you during your journey in Sumatra. Then you will go to the hotel for check-in and the rest of the day can be spent as you wish.
Day 2. Medan
After breakfast, the driver will pick you up, and first visit is the Maimun Palace. Next, you will be taken to Gedung London and other old buildings from the Dutch colonial era. Then we will have lunch at the old restaurant Tip-Top. Moreover, after lunch you will take a look at the State Museum of North Sumatra and take a walk on Merdeka Walk. Then you will transfer back to the hotel.
Day 3. Medan – Bukit Lawang
After breakfast, the journey to Bukit Lawang begins. However, along the way you will make several stops to take photos and have lunch. Then upon arrival in Bukit Lawang, you will transfer to the accommodation for check-in. Furthermore, you will go to Sam’s Bungalow where you will take a cooking class for preparing Daging Rendang, Chicken Curry, soup or Soto Ayam and decorating with different kinds of fruits.
Day 4. Bukit Lawang – Leuser National Park
At 9:00 am you will be picked up by the local guide of Leuser National Park you to start the jungle trekking. Then you will hike through the very dense jungle full of indigenous flora and fauna of the Leuser rainforest. Meanwhile, during the trip, the guide will tell you all about the forest inhabitants such as mammals, amphibians, reptiles, insects, butterflies, etc. Then you will enjoy the fresh water of the beautiful Bahorok River. While relaxing in the river, you can usually admire beautiful butterflies.
However, Orangutans and large birds such as the hornbill (Rangkok Gading) are often seen in the park. Meanwhile, the guide will prepare your lunch, nasi goreng and fruit from the local market are on the menu. So, after lunch we will take a look at the beautiful waterfall and go traditional tube rafting across the white waters of the river back to Bukit Lawang. Then you will transfer back to the accommodation and the rest of the day is free.
Day 5. Bukit Lawang – Samosir Island
After breakfast and check-out at the accommodation, a long drive is scheduled to Parapat harbor. Meanwhile, on the way you will pass palm oil and rubber plantations and we will make a stop at Gundaling Hill to enjoy the view of the 2 active volcanoes Sibayak and Sinabung. Furthermore, we stop to have lunch and take pictures from the viewpoint at the 110-meter high Sipiso-Piso waterfall. Then at the port in Parapat, you will cross to Samosir Island by ferry in about an hour. Upon arrival at the island, you will transfer to the accommodation for check-in.
Day 6. Pulau Samosir
Morning after breakfast, we will explore the island of Samosir. First, you will visit the Bataknese cannibals, it is the court of more than 100 years ago. Then you will go to Ambarita Village to attend a performance of multi-dancing of the traditional Batak tribe. This dance performance starts at 10:30 a.m. and lasts for an hour. Meanwhile, you also will take a look at how the Bataknese scarves are made by hand. Furthermore, after lunch you will visit the museum, the Efrata waterfall, the stone chair and the Bukit Holbung teletubbies.
Day 7. Pulau Samosir
Today is a free day. You can explore the area around Tuk-Tuk Village by moped or bicycle, take a culinary tour or take a boat ride on Lake Toba.
Day 8. Samosir Island – Medan
Today we make the crossing back to the mainland and return to Medan. Along the way you will pass the historic town of Pematang Siantar and stop for lunch. In Medan, you will transfer to the hotel for check-in and the rest of the day is free.
Day 9. Departure from Medan
At the desired time, the driver will pick you up and transfer to Kualanamu Airport to return home or continue the journey to another island. End of Tour.
