Snorkeling in Whale Shark Country
The waters around Cenderawasih Bay are the centrepiece of this journey. Snorkeling excursions offer the chance to observe coral reefs and tropical marine life, while encounters with whale sharks depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
A Glimpse of Traditional Papua
Beyond the water, the journey includes a visit to Kwatiksore traditional village. This provides an opportunity to meet the local community and gain a closer perspective on life and culture in the coastal region of Papua.
This is a remote marine adventure in Papua. Boat travel, sea conditions and weather can affect the daily programme. Whale shark sightings are wildlife encounters and therefore cannot be guaranteed. Travellers should be comfortable with boat transfers, snorkeling and changing outdoor conditions.

Itinerary
Flight to Nabire & Boat Transfer to Nuburi
Arrive at Sentani Airport in Jayapura and continue by flight to Nabire. After arrival, transfer by boat for approximately 2.5 hours to Nuburi Island. Upon arrival, settle into the island camp and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Snorkeling, Marine Life & Whale Sharks
After breakfast, enjoy time in the water around Nuburi Island. Swim and snorkel among coral reefs, tropical fish and other marine life, with the opportunity to encounter whale sharks in their natural environment.
Depending on conditions, you may also encounter other marine wildlife such as turtles, dolphins or reef sharks. A fishing activity is also included, with the catch prepared for lunch and dinner.
Traditional Village & Cenderawasih Bay
Visit Kwatiksore, a traditional village located within Cenderawasih Bay National Park. Explore the village and experience a different perspective of life in this remote coastal region of Papua.
An early-morning birdwatching experience can also be arranged near the village. Return to Nuburi Island in the afternoon for swimming, snorkeling, relaxation and time to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Island Leisure & Return to Nabire
Enjoy a relaxed morning on Nuburi Island. After lunch, depart by boat for the approximately 2.5-hour journey back to Nabire. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel for check-in and enjoy the remaining time at leisure.
Return to Jayapura
After breakfast, transfer to Nabire Airport for your flight back to Jayapura. From Jayapura, continue to your next destination or connect with your onward international journey.
