Birds Watching & Jungle Trekking
Ujung Kulon Birding Tour and Jungle Trekking is a special interest tour organized by professional experienced English speaking birding tour specialist. This Ujung Kulon birding tour is recommended for special traveler who really love bird watching in their real wild habitat. In this tour, you also will explore the islands in Ujung Kulon National Park, discover its beautiful white sandy beaches and underwater marine life by speed boat.
However, Ujung Kulon National Park has a very well-preserved ecosystem of flora and fauna. Its most precious feature is the one-horned rhinoceros or more commonly known as the Javan Rhino, which is regarded as the icon of both the national park and the province. This majestic creature is known as one of the rarest mammals on earth and is classified as critically endangered in the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) Red List of Threatened Species. It also home to other wildlife creatures, including over 35 mammals as well as more than 57 rare plant species and 240 species of birds. Some of the species that are unique to Ujung Kulon National Park including Banteng, Javan Gibbons, Muntjacs, and Langurs. There is so many islands in the park you can explore.
Itinerary
Day 1. Jakarta - Ujung Kulon Birding Jungle Camping Tour
You will be picked up at Hotel Jakarta around 5 am by our representative, then we drive to the border of Ujung Kulon National Park by private car, breakfast and coffee break will be served at the local restaurant. After breakfast, we will continue drive where we will bird and jungle camp at Mt. Honje area.
The birds species you can find are White-breasted Babbler, Grey-cheeked tit Babbler, Crescent-chested babbler, Black capped Babbler, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Horsfield’s Babbler, Temminck Babbler, Javan Owlet, Orange-breasted Trogon, Broadbill, Javan frogmouth, Crimson sunbird, Black-banded barbet, (Javan) Yellow-throated hanging parrot, Black-winged flycatcher-shrike, Blyth’s paradise flycatcher, Streaky-breasted spiderhunter, Little spider hunter, Black-monarch, Rufous-backed dwarf kingfisher and Javan kingfisher.
Arrival at the base camp and set up for camp site. Amazing Night birding is perhaps the highlight of a visit to Ujung Kulon and for those who like owls, where we will look for: Oriental-bay Owl, Spotted-wood owl, Barred-eagle owl, Sunda scops- owl, Brown boobook, Buffy-fish owl, Large-tailed nightjar and also Javan frogmouth.
Day 2. Ujung Kulon Birding Island Tour
Early breakfast will be served at the base camp, and after breakfast, we will focus to find some endemics, such as: White-breasted Babbler, Grey-cheeked tit-Babbler, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Crescent-chestnut Babbler, Black-banded barbet, Javan sunbird, Javan banded pitta and also Javan kingfisher which close to the base camp area. Lunch will be served. Free program. Afternoon short walking to find some sunbirds species, such as: crimson sunbird, Brown-throated sunbird, Little spiderhunter, Streaky-breasted (Javan) spiderhunter, and may be also to find Rufous-piculet.
Furthermore, around 10 a.m. we will trek back to the border to cruise to Cigenter river and birding trip on canoe. Cigenter River is influenced by tides and trees across the river and if the weather is good, the canoes can go deep into the forest. The Cigenter’s waters meanders through dense overhanging rain forest, the habitat of pythons and hornbills where crocodile and Rhino may also be seen on rare occasions. The charm of this river lies in its tranquil, primeval beauty. Explore the incredible canoe activity, and see mangrove blue flycatcher, mangrove whistler, blue-throated bee-eater, green peafowl, red jungle fowl, forest wagtail, hornbills, white-rumped shama, greater green leafbird, crimson sunbird and oriental-magpie robin.
Then we cruise to Ujung Kulon National Park by wooden boat, you will stay at Peucang Island. Arrive at Peucang, then check in at the lodge (non ac). Next, you can explore the beautiful, unique and delightful island of Peucang. It lies in clear blue waters off the northwestern coastline of the Ujung Kulon Peninsula. Its white-sandy beaches and coral reef shores hold a fascinating world of marine life. Peucang impressive forest shelters an abundance of wildlife, some of which graze and play around the lodges. Peucang Island’s beach is superb for swimming and shallow snorkeling reefs are also found all along the shore. For deeper snorkeling there are coral reefs to the east, midway between the Island and mainland.
Day 3. Peucang Island - Cidaon Birding Tour - Jakarta Hotel
Breakfast will be served on the boat while enjoying the beautiful morning at the island, and sometimes the Stork-billed kingfisher can be encountered around the beach and also the beautiful, white-bellied sea eagle. After breakfast, we will cruise to the mainland to look for Kingfishers bird, Javan forktail, Asian fairy bluebird, Fulvous-chested jungle fly catcher, green peafowl, crimson sunbird, Green imperial pigeon, Pied imperial pigeon, Blue-throated bee-eater, Chestnut-headed bee-eater and many others.
After enjoying birds watching, we will cruise back to Peucang Island and birding around the island to look for Wreathed-hornbill, maybe rhinoceros' hornbill and Oriental-pied hornbill. Then after lunch, we cruise to Marina Carita to go back to Jakarta hotel/airport.
