Sumatra 11D/10N is a private tour where you can get the best nature and culture experience in Sumatra. You will explore the jungle of Bukit Lawang to get the wildlife experience.

Sumatra supports a wide range of vegetation types that are home to a rich variety of species. However, it includes 17 endemic genera of plants. Unique species rainforest plants such as Rafflesia Arnoldi and the titan arum. Meanwhile, the island is home to 201 mammal species, 580 birds species, 300 freshwater fish species and 93 amphibian species in Sumatra. However, many species are now critically endangered, such as the Sumatran ground cuckoo, the Sumatran tiger, the Sumatran elephant, the Sumatran rhinoceros, and the Sumatran Orang Utan.

Samosir Island is a large volcanic island in Lake Toba, located in the north of the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the lake and island were formed after the eruption of a super volcano some 75,000 years ago. However, Samosir is a popular tourist destination due to its exotic history and the vistas it offers. Besides, the island is the center of the Batak culture and many of the Toba Batak traditional houses (rumah adat) remain on the island.

Day 1. Arrival Medan

Upon arrival at the Kualanamu Airport in Medan, you will meet your private driver who will accompany you during your journey in Sumatra. Then you will go to the hotel for check-in and the rest of the day can be spent as you wish.

Day 2. Medan – Tangkahan

After breakfast, you will visit the Maimun Palace. Then you will go to Gedung London and other old buildings from the Dutch colonial era. Furthermore, we start the journey on Sumatra to Tangkahan. On the way we will make several stops to have lunch and take pictures of the beautiful scenery. Upon arrival in Tangkahan you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings and possibly meet the local people in the village.

Day 3. Tangkahan – Bukit Lawang

At 9 a.m., you will be picked up by a local guide and go to the elephant camp to watch the Sumatran elephants bathe in the river. Of course, you can lend a hand with washing and scrubbing. After this we continue the journey by jeep to Bukit Lawang. Meanwhile, along the way we will stop at various locations to enjoy the view and take a look at the villages and their daily activities. Then after the jeep safari of about 2.5 hours through the wilderness and bumpy dirt roads, we arrive in Bukit Lawang around 4:00 pm.
Optional, you can take a cooking class. You can choose from preparing Daging Rendang, Chicken Curry soup or Soto Ayam and you will decorate it with different kinds of fruits.

Day 4. Bukit Lawang – Leuser National Park

At 9:00 am you will be picked up by the local guide of Leuser National Park you to start the jungle trekking. You will hike through the very dense jungle full of indigenous flora and fauna of the Leuser rainforest. During the trip, the guide will tell you all about the forest inhabitants such as mammals, amphibians, reptiles, insects, butterflies, etc. Enjoy the fresh water of the beautiful Bahorok River. While relaxing in the river, you can usually admire beautiful butterflies.

However, Orangutans and large birds such as the hornbill (Rangkok Gading) are often seen in the park. The guide will prepare your lunch, nasi goreng and fruit from the local market are on the menu. Around 4 p.m. you will reach the destination where the night will be spent. You can relax, drink coffee or tea and swim in the river. Furthermore, during dinner you can enjoy the cooked meals on the campfire and after dinner various games and other types of activities will be played. You will spend the night in a tent made of bamboo and plastic sheeting. An overnight in the jungle is a special experience, under a sky full of stars and surrounded by different animal sounds.

Day 5. Leuser National Park – Bukit Lawang

In the morning you will wake up to the sound of the monkeys and start the day with a cup of coffee or tea. Then you will eat your breakfast and the trip of about a few more hours will continue. On the way we will make a stop at the beautiful waterfall and after a delicious lunch you will go back to Bukit Lawang by traditional tube rafting over the white waters of the river. Then you will transfer back to the accommodation and the rest of the day is free.

Day 6. Bukit Lawang – Berastagi

After breakfast and check-out at the accommodation, we continue the journey to the highlands of Berastagi. Meanwhile, on the way you will pass palm oil and rubber plantations and we will visit a coffee plantation. Furthermore, we make a stop at Gundaling Hill to enjoy the view of the 2 active volcanoes Sibayak and Sinabung. Then you will transfer to the accommodation for check-in.

Day 7. Berastagi – Pulau Samosir

Today after breakfast, we will visit the local fruit market. Then we continue the journey to Parapat. However, on the way we make a stop at the 110-meter high Sipiso-Piso waterfall to take pictures. Then at the port in Parapat, you will cross to Samosir Island by ferry in about an hour. Furthermore, after you arrived at the island, you will transfer to your accommodation.

Day 8. Samosir Island

After breakfast, you will visit the Bataknese cannibals or court over 100 years ago. Then you will go to Ambarita Village to attend a performance of multi-dancing of the traditional Batak tribe. Meanwhile, this dance performance starts at 10:30 am and lasts for an hour. After the performance, you will take a look at stone chair and then you will go back to the accommodation.

Day 9. Samosir Island

Today is a free day and can be filled as you wish. You can take a moped or bike to explore the area around Tuk-Tuk Village or take a culinary tour. Of course, you can also relax and enjoy yourself at the accommodation.

Day 10. Samosir – Medan

Today we make the crossing back to the mainland and return to Medan. Along the way, you will pass the historic town of Pematang Siantar. Then after arrived in Medan, you will transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Day 11. Departure from Medan

At the desired time, you will be picked up and transferred to the Kualanamu Airport to return home or continue the trip to another island. End of Tour.
