Itinerary
Into the Heart of Asmat Culture
A five-day cultural expedition from Timika into the remote waterways and communities of Asmat, combining river journeys, village encounters, traditional arts and meaningful cultural experiences.
Arrival in Asmat & Agats Cultural Introduction
Arrive in Timika and continue by domestic flight to Ewer Airport, the gateway to the Asmat region.
From Ewer, continue by motorized canoe or speedboat for approximately 35 minutes towards Agats, the administrative centre of Asmat Regency. The journey immediately introduces you to the waterways and wetland landscapes that shape life in this remote part of Papua.
Upon arrival in Agats, check in at your accommodation before visiting the Asmat Museum. Discover an introduction to the region's cultural heritage, traditional art and distinctive woodcarving traditions.
Lunch and dinner are served at a local restaurant. Overnight in Agats.

River Journey & Village Welcome
After breakfast, transfer to the pier and begin a boat journey towards Omanesep Village. The journey takes approximately three hours, following the waterways and coastal landscapes of the Asmat region.
Upon arrival, explore Omanesep Village and meet members of the local community. This is an opportunity to observe the village environment, traditional architecture and everyday life in one of the remote communities of Asmat.
In the evening, experience a traditional welcoming performance, with local villagers gathering for drumming and cultural expressions. Dinner and overnight are arranged in local community accommodation.

Traditional Dance & Cultural Immersion
After breakfast, spend the morning experiencing a traditional Asmat dance and cultural presentation by members of the Omanesep community.
The experience provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Asmat cultural expressions, music, movement and community traditions while spending meaningful time with local hosts.
After lunch, begin the return boat journey to Agats. Arrive in Agats and settle back into your accommodation for the evening.

Return to Timika & Kuala Kencana
After breakfast, transfer by boat for approximately 35 minutes from Agats to Ewer Airport for your return flight to Timika.
After arriving in Timika, enjoy lunch at your hotel or a local restaurant before continuing to Kuala Kencana.
Kuala Kencana is a planned settlement surrounded by tropical rainforest. Subject to access and local security permission, explore the area and experience the striking contrast between Papua's remote natural environment and this carefully planned modern community.
Enjoy dinner before returning to your hotel in Timika for the night.

Farewell to Papua
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transferring to Timika Airport for your onward flight. Your Asmat cultural expedition concludes with memories of remote river landscapes, village encounters and the living cultural heritage of southern Papua.
