Primates & Forest Mammals
During daytime trekking, the expedition searches for species including Javan Lutung, Javan Gibbon, Grizzled Leaf Monkey, Long-tailed Macaque, Black-banded Squirrel, Horsfield’s Treeshrew, Javan Mongoose, Plantain Squirrel, Three-striped Ground Squirrel and Black Giant Squirrel.
The Forest After Dark
After sunset, a guided night walk around the camp offers a different perspective on the forest. Possible nocturnal sightings include Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Sunda Colugo, Javan Slow Loris, Javan Mouse-Deer and several species of civet and fruit bat.
Forest Landscape & Wildlife Habitat
The expedition explores the forest landscape around Mount Honje, a relatively accessible mountain environment within the Ujung Kulon area. Its natural vegetation provides habitat for a variety of protected wildlife.
Observe Without Disturbing
Wildlife observation is conducted in the animals’ natural environment. Sightings depend on animal behaviour, weather, forest conditions and chance. Guests are encouraged to follow the guide’s instructions and maintain a respectful distance from wildlife.

Itinerary
Ujung Kulon Mammal-Watching Expedition
Three days of jungle trekking, daytime wildlife observation, night walking and forest camping in the Ujung Kulon National Park area.
Jakarta – Ujung Kulon – Mount Honje – Forest Camp
Early morning pick-up from your hotel in Jakarta at approximately 05.00. Continue by private car towards the border of Ujung Kulon National Park.
Stop at a local restaurant for breakfast and a coffee break before continuing towards the park boundary.
Upon arrival, begin the jungle trek towards the campsite. Along the trail, keep watch for Javan Lutung, Javan Gibbon, Grizzled Leaf Monkey, Long-tailed Macaque and Black-banded Squirrel.
Continue exploring the forest environment around Mount Honje, known for its natural vegetation and protected wildlife habitat.
After dinner at the campsite, join a guided night walk to search for nocturnal mammals.
Possible sightings include Red Giant Flying Squirrel, Sunda Colugo, Javan Slow Loris, Javan Mouse-Deer, civets, porcupines and fruit bats.
Ujung Kulon Forest Exploration
After breakfast, begin a full day of jungle trekking focused on mammal observation.
Explore the forest trails and search for Horsfield’s Treeshrew, Javan Mongoose, Plantain Squirrel, Three-striped Ground Squirrel and Black Giant Squirrel.
The pace of the trek is adapted to wildlife observation, allowing time to listen for movement, scan the vegetation and observe signs of animal activity.
Lunch and dinner are served at the campsite. Overnight in the jungle camp.
Final Wildlife Walk – Jakarta
After breakfast, enjoy a final short jungle trek in search of mammal species that may not have been encountered during the previous days.
Around 10.00, begin the trek back towards the park boundary.
Meet your private vehicle and continue the journey back to Jakarta. Arrive at your hotel and end of the expedition.
