Jeepsafari Sukamade 2D/1N
The jeepsafari Sukamade is an adventurous off-road private trip in east- Java. It is called one of the most spectacular experiences from the people who took this trip. Sukamade Beach is well-known for the sea turtles visiting the beach to lay down their eggs. The drive by jeep goes through the jungle, crossing rivers, past local villages and various plantations.
The dedicated team of the breeding center of Sukamade are keeping the eggs safe and taking care of the baby turtles until they are ready to be released. And you can witness and be part of this wonderful event. We will visit the beach in the evening to search for a large turtle. In most cases, you can witness the turtle laying eggs. Early in the morning we visit the hatching center where the local guide shares information about taking care of the eggs until the moment the baby turtles are released.
Day 1: Pick up Banyuwangi or Kalibaru – Sukamade
Pick up at 8:00 AM at your accommodation in Banyuwangi or Kalibaru and the adventure starts to Sukamade. This is a drive by jeep of about 5 hours where you drive through traditional villages, past beautiful rice fields, through the jungle and rivers. Along the way you will make a stop at a palm sugar factory and the viewpoint over Green Bay. Upon arrival in Sukamade, guests will be taken to the property for check-in. This is a primitive residence without any luxuries.
While dinner is being prepared, you can take a break from the long bumpy ride in the company of mischievous monkeys. At 8:00 PM you will be taken by the local guide to the beach to search for a giant tortoise. It may take a while for the team to find 1, but it is definitely worth the wait and especially when the turtle also lays eggs. During the short walk back to the property you will notice that certain tree trunks and plants are glowing in the dark. The guide will explain to you what causes this miraculous phenomenon!
Day 2: Sukamade – Drop off Banyuwangi or Kalibaru
After an early wake-up call, you will be picked up at 6:00 AM to visit the breeding center. Here you can watch the team take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. With a bucket full of turtles, we go to the beach again, but this time to release the baby turtles. The guide will give certain instructions for the well-being of the turtles. We kindly ask you to follow these instructions.
After all the turtles have disappeared from sight, we return to the accommodation for breakfast and a shower. After this we continue the ride by jeep to Banyuwangi or Kalibaru. Also, a drive of about 4 hours through the jungle, over rivers and bumpy dirt roads. Upon arrival, guests will be taken to the property for check-in and the rest of the day is free.
