Baliem Valley is a picturesque valley located in the central highlands of Papua province in Indonesia, it surrounded by towering mountains and home to the Dani people, an ethnic group known for their distinctive culture and way of life. However, the Baliem Valley was isolated from the outside world until the early 20th century when it was discovered by western explorer. Since that, the valley has become a popular destination for adventure travelers, anthropologists, and photographers.
Day 1. Jayapura – Wamena
Arrival at Sentani Jayapura airport, meet and greet with our representative then continue the flight to Wamena, the highland of Papua. After arrived in Wamena you will be taken direct to the hotel for check-in. You will enjoy your lunch at the hotel. So, after lunch, you will have a tour surroundings the town of Wamena, visit local market and also traditional villages nearby town. Afterwards, in the late afternoon you will return to the accommodation for dinner and rest.
Day 2. Dani Tribe – Sumpaima Village
After breakfast, you will visit several traditional villages of Dani Tribe, an indigenous people who live in the central highlands of Papua, specifically in the Wamena region. They are known because their unique traditions, culture, and way of life. Afterward you will go to visit the Mummy in Sumpaima village. However, The Mummy is estimated to be around 400 years old. The Sumpaima mummy is believed to have been a member of the Dani tribe and was mummified using traditional methods, it is said that the mummy was found with its arms crossed, because it is a common burial practice among the Dani people.
Lunch box and refreshments will be prepared in time. Then late in the afternoon you will go back to your accommodation for dinner and rest.
Day 3. Obia Village – Cooking Ceremony
After breakfast, you will be taken by car to visit the Obia village or Anemaugi village to attending one of the most famous traditional Dani cooking ceremony cooking, locally known as “Mamajap.” This involves digging a pit in the ground and lining it with hot stones. The food, usually meat or vegetables is wrapped in leaves and placed on top of the hot stones, which are then covered with more leaves. Because the food is left to cook slowly for several hours, so it has a delicious taste and smoky flavor. You may also try to eat sweet potatoes after cooking. However, the locals of Dani will set and display down mini market to selling the traditional Souvenirs. Then late in the afternoon you will go back to the accommodation for dinner and rest.
Day 4. Sentani Airport – Sentani Lake – Museum – Hamadi Market
Today after early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport and catch the flight to Sentani Airport of Jayapura. Upon your arrival at Sentani Airport, you will go visit Lake Sentani by boat, Museum Anthropology of Cendrawasih University, Hamadi Central market, souvenirs shop and afterwards you will go to visit the Welcome Hills, where you can see the beautiful Jayapura scenery. So, after that you will back your accommodation late in the afternoon for dinner and rest.
Day 5. Wamena – Sentani Airport Jayapura
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport of Wamena to catch your flight and continue your trip to the next destination.
