Tanjung Puting Orangutan River Expedition
Journey deep into the rainforest of Central Kalimantan on a private three-day expedition aboard a traditional klotok boat, exploring the rivers and forests of Tanjung Puting National Park.
Cruise along the Sekonyer River, observe orangutans and proboscis monkeys in their natural environment, and visit some of the national park's most important wildlife and conservation sites, including Pondok Tanggui, Camp Leakey and Tanjung Harapan.

Experience the rainforest from the water as your klotok moves slowly along the Sekonyer River. Look for wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, birds and other wildlife while travelling through tropical forest and peat-swamp landscapes.
From Kumai Into Tanjung Puting
Meet your team in Pangkalan Bun and transfer to Kumai, where your private klotok begins its journey into the national park. Over the following two days, cruise between wildlife areas and forest trails before returning downstream to Kumai on the final morning.

Your traditional klotok is more than transportation. It becomes your base throughout the expedition, with an open deck for wildlife observation, meals prepared by the onboard cook and a simple sleeping area for two nights on the river.

Itinerary
Tanjung Puting Orangutan River Expedition
Three days of river cruising, rainforest exploration and wildlife observation aboard a private traditional klotok in Tanjung Puting National Park.
Into the Rainforest by Klotok
Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport, meet your local team and transfer to Kumai Harbor, the gateway to Tanjung Puting National Park. Board your private traditional klotok and begin cruising along the Kumai and Sekonyer Rivers into the rainforest.
Lunch is served onboard as the landscape changes from riverside settlements to tropical forest. Keep watch along the riverbanks for proboscis monkeys, macaques, birds and other wildlife.
In the afternoon, visit Tanjung Harapan and its orangutan feeding area. Follow the forest trail with your guide and learn more about the national park and orangutan conservation.
Return to the klotok for an evening cruise and enjoy dinner onboard as the rainforest becomes quiet around you. Overnight on the klotok.
Deeper Into the Orangutan Forest
Wake early to the sounds of the rainforest and enjoy breakfast onboard. Continue upriver towards Pondok Tanggui, one of Tanjung Puting's orangutan rehabilitation and feeding areas.
From the river, walk through the forest with your guide to reach the feeding area. Take time to observe the orangutans and learn about their rehabilitation and conservation.
Continue by klotok towards Camp Leakey, one of the best-known orangutan research and conservation sites in Tanjung Puting. Enjoy lunch onboard before exploring the forest area around the camp.
Visit the information area and continue to the orangutan feeding site, subject to the national park's operating schedule. After the visit, return to the klotok and cruise through the rainforest.
Enjoy dinner onboard and spend another night surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
Final River Cruise & Departure
Enjoy your final breakfast onboard while taking in the peaceful rainforest surroundings. Begin the downstream journey towards Kumai, with opportunities for final wildlife observation and photography along the river.
Arrive at Kumai Harbor and disembark from the klotok. Continue by private vehicle to Pangkalan Bun Airport for your onward flight.
If flight timing allows, a short stop at a local market or city area in Pangkalan Bun may be arranged before the airport transfer.

Tanjung Puting is a wild and protected environment. Orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, birds and other wildlife move freely through the forest, so sightings depend on season, weather, river conditions and animal behaviour.

Private Traditional Klotok
Your traditional wooden klotok becomes your floating base for two nights as you travel along the rivers of Tanjung Puting National Park. The boat includes a simple sleeping area with mattresses, bedding and mosquito protection, together with a basic onboard toilet.
The open deck provides a comfortable space for wildlife observation, relaxing between excursions and enjoying meals while travelling through the rainforest.
