Day 1. Airport – Kumai – Proboscis Tour
Pick up at the airport and we will start the adventurous journey to Kumai. From Kumai River, we will cross to Sekonyer River for about 15 minutes by wooden boat, named klotok. It is the beginning of our tour to Tanjung Puting National Park. Lunch will be served on the boat, prepared by our cook, with many varieties of food.
Along the way upstream, you will see different trees vegetation. In the afternoon, it’s the right time to see proboscis monkeys (long nose monkeys), macaques, and different kinds of birds. Dinner will be served on the boat with candlelight, and you can enjoy the atmosphere of the jungle. You will stay overnight on the boat.
Day 2. Camp Leakey
After breakfast on the boat, we go directly to Camp Leakey. Along this way, we can see proboscis monkeys (long nose monkey), macaques, fishes, crocodiles, and many kinds of birds. Arriving at Camp Leakey, we will go hiking to the jungle heterogenic forest. Here is the orangutan’s place of research by Orangutan Foundation International (OFI). Next, we will visit the information Centre, still in Camp Leakey area. Then we go back to the boat for lunch and some resting time.
After lunch, we will go to Camp Leakey again to meet the orangutans which will be feeding at 02.00 to 04.00 p.m. Finish with feeding, we go back to the boat for taking a shower. Driving down for about 2 km, stop for having dinner and stay overnight.
Day 3. Pondok Tanggui – Reforestation – Village – Tanjung Harapan
After breakfast on the boat, we continue the trip down to Pondok Tanggui to watch the orangutans feeding again at 09.00 a.m. Then we will go to the reforestation project. There are many kinds of traditional medicine plantations and seedling. In rain season, the visitors can adopt seeds to plant in this place. Back to the boat to have lunch and take some rest.
Then we continue our trip to a local village. Across the village is the first station located, called Tanjung Harapan. Here we can see orangutan feeding at 03.00 p.m. Back to the boat, sailing down and stop for dinner and stay overnight.
Day 4. Kumai – Airport
Morning breakfast on the boat in Tanjung Harapan, then boating down the river back to Kumai. Before transfer to Pangkalan Bun airport, if there is spare time, we will make a city tour and visit the traditional market in Pangkalan Bun. Drop off at the airport to continue your journey to the next destination.
