Trekking, Walking & Early Starts
The journey includes a challenging trek to Waerebo, walking experiences in rural areas and an early-morning climb to Kelimutu for sunrise. Travellers should be comfortable with uneven terrain, long driving days and early departures.
Mountains, Rice Fields & Beaches
Flores offers constantly changing scenery, from the green landscapes around Waerebo and Ruteng to the highlands of Bajawa, the rice fields of Detusoko and the coastal beaches around Maumere.
Sunrise Over the Three-Coloured Lakes
One of the journey's signature experiences is the early-morning visit to Kelimutu. Departing around 03:00, travel to the viewpoint and make the approximately 30-minute climb to watch the sunrise over the three coloured crater lakes.
An Active Overland Journey
This is an active overland journey with several long road transfers, trekking and early-morning starts. Accommodation and facilities may be simpler in traditional villages and remote areas. Snorkelling and other outdoor activities are subject to weather and local conditions.

Itinerary
Journey Itinerary
Travel across Flores from Labuan Bajo to Maumere, combining traditional villages, mountain landscapes, waterfalls, rice fields and coastal scenery.
Trekking to Traditional Waerebo
Begin the journey from Labuan Bajo towards Waerebo. Stop at Pelataran Komodo viewpoint for views towards the Komodo Islands, then continue through Lembor and its extensive rice fields. Continue to Nangalili Beach before reaching Denge Village.
From Denge, ride scooters to the trekking starting point. Accompanied by a local guide, trek for approximately 3.5 hours through the green landscape towards Waerebo. Upon arrival, experience a traditional welcome ceremony before dinner and an overnight stay in the village.
Spiderweb Rice Fields & Liang Bua Cave
After a simple breakfast, trek back to the scooter stand and return to Denge Village. Continue by car towards Cancar, where a short climb leads to a viewpoint overlooking the famous Spiderweb Rice Fields.
Continue to Liang Bua Village and visit the cave associated with the discovery of the remains known as 'Flo'. There is also an adjacent museum providing information about the cave, Flores and Komodo dragons. Continue to Ruteng for your accommodation.
Bena Village & Malanage Hot Spring
Continue towards Bajawa on a journey of approximately five hours, passing through Aimere. Stop to observe the local production of palm wine before continuing to Bena Village.
Explore Bena, meet local residents and observe traditional sarong weaving. Continue to Malanage Hot Spring before stopping at Wolobobo Hill for views towards Mount Inerie, Langa Valley and Bajawa. Check in to your accommodation.
Free Day in Bajawa
Enjoy a free day in Bajawa. Take a walk around the area, explore independently or simply relax at your accommodation.
Waterfalls, Rice Fields & Traditional Wologai
After breakfast, visit Ogi-Ogi Waterfall before continuing towards Moni. Stop at Blue Stone Beach for lunch and enjoy several scenic stops along the route, including the Detusoko rice fields.
Continue to Wologai Village to visit its traditional houses before arriving in Moni. Check in to your accommodation and rest in preparation for the early-morning Kelimutu excursion.
Kelimutu Sunrise & Koka Beach
Depart around 03:00 for Kelimutu to experience the sunrise and see its three coloured lakes. The climb to the viewpoint takes approximately 30 minutes.
After sunrise, visit Murundao Waterfall for a walk and time to enjoy the fresh water. Return to the accommodation for breakfast and a shower before checking out. Continue towards Koka Beach for lunch and time by the white sandy beach, then proceed to Maumere and check in to your accommodation.
Free Day by the Coast
Enjoy a free day in Maumere. Relax on the beach or arrange an optional snorkelling experience.
Departure from Flores
At your desired departure time, you will be picked up and transferred to Maumere Airport for your onward flight home or continuation to another island.
Active Travel Across Flores
The journey includes a 3.5-hour trek to Waerebo, additional walking, long road transfers and a 03:00 departure for Kelimutu. Weather and local conditions may affect outdoor activities and travel times.
