A deep journey through Papua's rainforest, combining river travel, jungle trekking and meaningful cultural encounters with the Korowai people.

Arrival in Papua & Gateway to the Expedition

Arrive at Sentani Airport in Jayapura and meet your local expedition representative. Continue by flight to Nop Goliath Airport in Dekai.

Upon arrival in Dekai, continue by car to the local police office to register the required travel permit. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue to Logpon for your overnight stay.

Journey by Motor Canoe into Korowai Territory

After breakfast, load your belongings into a motor canoe and begin the long river journey towards Mabul Settlement.

Travel for approximately nine hours along the Brazza River and Sirets River, following waterways that are essential to the daily life and traditions of the Korowai people.

A lunch box will be prepared for the journey. Upon arrival at Sepanap or Mabul, settle into your local accommodation for dinner and rest.

Jungle Trekking to the Korowai Tree House

After breakfast, begin approximately five hours of trekking through dense rainforest towards the Guare Korowai tree house area.

Trek through the untouched jungle accompanied by your local guide, with lunch provided along the route.

Upon arrival in Guare, settle into a basic jungle camp or local shelter and enjoy dinner before resting in this remote environment.

Traditional Sago Harvest

Today you accompany the Guare chief and members of the community to experience the traditional sago harvesting process.

Sago is an important staple food for indigenous communities in Papua and plays an essential role in the traditional diet and culture of the Korowai people.

The process is physically demanding and may take approximately seven hours. Lunch and dinner are provided at the local guest house.

Living with the Korowai

Spend the day experiencing the traditional lifestyle of the Korowai people. Observe daily activities, learn about their relationship with the rainforest and discover how the forest provides food, materials and shelter.

Depending on local circumstances, cultural activities and traditional hunting or fishing experiences may be arranged with your local hosts.

Return Through the Rainforest

After an early breakfast, begin the trek back towards Mabul, taking approximately two hours through the rainforest.

From Mabul, continue by motor canoe along the Brazza River for approximately six hours towards Logpon. Lunch is served along the way.

Upon arrival in Logpon, transfer to your accommodation for dinner and rest.

From the Jungle Back to Jayapura

After breakfast, transfer to Nop Goliath Airport in Dekai for your flight back to Jayapura.

Upon arrival, continue to Lake Sentani, one of Papua's largest lakes. Enjoy a boat journey across the lake and lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to your accommodation.

Rest & Reflection

Enjoy a more relaxed day in Jayapura after the demanding expedition. Take time to rest and recover, or arrange an optional local visit depending on your interests and flight schedule.

Final Day in Papua

Enjoy your final day in Papua at your own pace. Optional sightseeing or cultural activities may be arranged according to availability and your onward travel schedule.

Departure from Papua

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Your Korowai Tribe Expedition comes to an end, leaving you with memories of one of Papua's most remote and extraordinary cultural environments.
