Discover the Wonders of Sumatra in 11 Days

Day 1 — Arrival in Medan

Upon arrival at Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, you will meet your private driver who will accompany you throughout your journey in Sumatra. Afterwards, transfer to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is free at leisure to relax or explore the city at your own pace.

Day 2 — Medan / Tangkahan

After breakfast, begin the city tour with a visit to the historic Maimun Palace, followed by Gedung London and several colonial-era buildings from the Dutch period. Afterwards, continue the journey to Tangkahan while passing scenic countryside landscapes and tropical plantations. Several stops will be made along the way for lunch and photo opportunities. Upon arrival in Tangkahan, enjoy the peaceful jungle atmosphere and experience the authentic local village surroundings.

Day 3 — Tangkahan / Bukit Lawang

At approximately 09.00 AM, you will be picked up by a local guide and taken to the elephant camp where you can observe Sumatran elephants bathing in the river. You may also participate in washing and scrubbing the elephants alongside the mahouts. Afterwards, continue the adventure by jeep safari towards Bukit Lawang. Along the route, stop at several scenic viewpoints and local villages to observe daily life in the countryside. After an exciting off-road journey of approximately 2.5 hours through rugged jungle tracks, arrive in Bukit Lawang around 04.00 PM.

Optional activities are available in the evening, including a traditional cooking class where you can learn how to prepare local dishes such as Daging Rendang, Chicken Curry Soup, or Soto Ayam, beautifully presented with tropical fruit garnishes.

Day 4 — Bukit Lawang / Leuser National Park

After breakfast at approximately 09.00 AM, you will meet the local ranger of Gunung Leuser National Park to begin your jungle trekking adventure. Explore the dense tropical rainforest filled with unique flora and fauna native to the Leuser ecosystem. During the trek, your guide will explain the rich biodiversity of the forest, including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and exotic butterflies.

Orangutans and large tropical birds such as the hornbill are frequently spotted within the park. Enjoy a simple jungle lunch consisting of local fried rice and fresh tropical fruits. In the afternoon, arrive at the overnight campsite beside the beautiful Bahorok River where you can relax, swim, or enjoy coffee and tea surrounded by pristine nature.

In the evening, dinner will be prepared over a campfire followed by fun group activities and relaxation under the stars. Overnight will be spent in a simple jungle tent made from bamboo and waterproof sheeting, creating a truly authentic rainforest experience accompanied by the sounds of nocturnal wildlife.

Day 5 — Leuser National Park / Bukit Lawang

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest and enjoy a warm cup of coffee or tea before breakfast. Continue the jungle trek for several more hours while exploring deeper into the rainforest. Along the route, stop at a beautiful waterfall where you can relax and enjoy the fresh mountain water.

After lunch, return to Bukit Lawang by traditional tube rafting along the Bahorok River, offering an exciting and refreshing end to your jungle experience. Upon arrival, transfer to your accommodation and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 6 — Bukit Lawang / Berastagi

After breakfast and check-out, continue the journey towards the cool highlands of Berastagi. Along the route, pass extensive palm oil and rubber plantations before visiting a local coffee plantation to learn about traditional coffee production. Afterwards, stop at Gundaling Hill to admire panoramic views of the two active volcanoes, Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung. Upon arrival in Berastagi, transfer to your accommodation for check-in.

Day 7 — Berastagi / Samosir Island

Today after breakfast, visit the traditional fruit market of Berastagi before continuing the journey towards Parapat, located on the shores of Lake Toba. En route, stop at the spectacular 110-meter Sipiso-Piso Waterfall for photos and scenic views. Upon arrival at Parapat Harbor, cross Lake Toba by ferry to Samosir Island, a volcanic island located in the middle of the lake. After arriving on Samosir Island, transfer to your accommodation for check-in.

Day 8 — Samosir Island Cultural Tour

After breakfast, begin exploring the cultural heritage of the Batak people on Samosir Island. Visit the ancient Batak court and stone chair site, which was historically used for tribal meetings and traditional ceremonies more than a century ago. Continue to Ambarita Village to witness a traditional Batak dance performance featuring authentic music and cultural storytelling.

After the performance, continue exploring the historical stone chairs and surrounding village area before returning to the accommodation. The remainder of the day is free to relax and enjoy the peaceful lake atmosphere.

Day 9 — Leisure Day on Samosir Island

Today is free at leisure and can be enjoyed according to your personal interests. You may rent a scooter or bicycle to explore the surrounding villages and lakeside scenery around Tuk Tuk Village, enjoy local culinary experiences, or simply relax at the accommodation while admiring the tranquil beauty of Lake Toba.

Day 10 — Samosir Island / Medan

After breakfast, cross back to the mainland by ferry and continue the journey to Medan. Along the route, pass through the historic town of Pematang Siantar while enjoying the beautiful scenery of North Sumatra. Upon arrival in Medan, transfer to the hotel for check-in and enjoy your final evening at leisure.

Day 11 — Departure from Medan

At the designated time, you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to Kualanamu International Airport for your onward flight home or continuation to your next destination. End of tour.
